About This Tool
The Waist-to-Hip Ratio (WHR) Calculator measures the proportion of your waist circumference to your hip circumference. WHR is a well-established indicator of health risk, particularly for cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
To measure correctly, take your waist measurement at the narrowest point (usually just above the belly button) and your hip measurement at the widest point of your buttocks. Divide waist by hip to get your ratio.
According to the World Health Organization, a WHR above 0.90 for men or above 0.85 for women indicates substantially increased health risk. Lower ratios generally indicate a healthier fat distribution pattern with less visceral (abdominal) fat.
