About This Tool
The Calories Burned Calculator estimates how many calories you burn during various physical activities. It uses MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) values, which represent the energy cost of activities relative to resting metabolism.
MET values are research-based measurements from the Compendium of Physical Activities. Walking has a MET of about 3.5, running at 6 mph is approximately 9.8, and swimming laps is around 8.0. Higher MET values indicate more intense activities.
The formula is straightforward: Calories = MET × weight in kg × duration in hours. This gives you a practical estimate for planning your exercise routine and understanding your energy expenditure during different activities.
